We love seeing progress updates from our planting partners! Eden Reforestation approached us this past spring in need of support for a new project location in Casa Partida, Mozambique.
Near the city of Beira, this area was once a bustling habitat for mangrove stands and the amazing animals, crabs, and fish that thrive within them. Historically the locals have used these mangrove stands to provide them with food by hunting animals and catching fish / crabs. Unfortunately, these mangrove stands were completely wiped out for charcoal production, leaving the locals with no resources to support themselves.
Here's a photo from January 2021 before the reforestation work began. It's sad to see this land so barren compared to what it once was. Of the 854 hectares that comprise this project, 700 of them had been completely deforested.

Planting began in March, with over 506,000 mangroves being planted thus far! The end goal to completely reforest this area is to plant over 7 million trees.
Here's a picture from March of the planting taking place:

Here's a picture from earlier this month of the mangroves starting to take root and grow! This is what it's all about. These trees will grow to full size and in turn clean the air we breathe, help our environment, and bring biodiversity back to the area (providing animals / fish for locals to eat). Because of Eden's Employ-to-Plant methodology, over 210 days of fair wage employment have been created each month of the project thus far.

We couldn't make projects like this come to life without the incredible support of all of our business and individual partners. We have a long way to go to restore our earth to where it should be and we'll keep working to make that a reality. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our journey so far, we appreciate you!
